AROMATA is a small series of paintings inspired by the ancient world of fragrant oils, perfumes, flowers, and the vessels created to hold them.

IASMELAION is inspired by the ancient Greek tradition of perfumed oils and the soft, warm fragrance of jasmine.

The name ἰασμέλαιον (iasmelaion) brings together the idea of jasmine and elaion, the Greek word for oil — imagined here as a precious jasmine-scented oil kept in a small vessel made for fragrance.

In the painting, the vessel becomes more than an ancient object. It is imagined as something personal, perhaps belonging to one woman, holding a scent associated with beauty, intimacy, and memory. The jasmine surrounding it becomes a visual continuation of the fragrance — something invisible captured in pigment.
